Vegan Quiz (Stuffed Tomato Recipe Included)

So, how much do you know about vegan food? Are you ready to get quizzed about plant-based protein and calcium sources, and on vitamin B12? Ready to find out where to get your vegan iron sources?

vegan quiz (stuffed tomato recipe included)

Take this fun quiz and test your knowledge. Find out if you’re a little cherry tomato (beginner), an elegant Saladette tomato (intermediate), or a full-fledged Heirloom tomato (advanced level).

Feel free to freshen up on the info in my blog posts, but during the quiz, no cheating, OK. 😉

Don’t worry if you only made it to a tiny cherry tomato. You can always re-take the quiz and move up to the Saladette level or even set your teeth into that juicy Heirloom tomato.

And speaking of tomatoes, how about a lovely stuffed tomato recipe with rice and veggies?

For this recipe you need

  • 4 medium tomatoes
  • 4 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1/2 medium onion (finely chopped)
  • 1 clove garlic (finely chopped)
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh basil
  • 1/2 chopped green bell pepper
  • 1/3 cup cooked green peas
  • 2/3 cup boiled rice
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 cup grated vegan cheese

Procedure

  • Slice off the top, then scoop the pulp out of the tomatoes.
  • Place tomatoes on a baking tin
  • Sauté Bell pepper in olive oil for two minutes
  • Add onion and basil, and heat for another three minutes, until the onion pieces are slightly glazed and the chopped Bell pepper is soft.
  • Add everything else, except for the cheese
  • Mix well, then remove from heat
  • Add vegan cheese and stir it in the mixture. Leave some extra for topping.
  • Fill the tomatoes with the rice – vegetable mix. Top it off with some vegan cheese.
  • Bake for 13-14 minutes, or until cheese has melted and tomatoes are cooked.

  1. lol funny quiz it seems I reached regal Saladette status! Well, look at you, a sophisticated Saladette! You’ll go nicely with a
kidney bean salad and also on toast, with salt and pepper sprinkled on top. With your knowledge, you will create some yummy recipes in no time

  2. I really don’t qualify as a vegetarian, but your stuffed tomatoes really would be a great side dish for any meal.  I have not had a lot of luck getting tomatoes to keep their shape, they seem to fall apart or maybe just wilt.  Does your rice mix hold the tomato shape?  I actually hate to show you how much I don’t know about the ingredients, but what is the difference in vegan and regular cheese?  Is there any difference in how it melts or the taste? Just wanted to be prepared when I try to make this recipe.

There is a vegetarian restaurant just down the road from where my daughter works, so she is looking forward to helping the family learn about meatless cooking.  We will enjoy having a new choice, and a new slant for eating.

I do love a good hamburger,  but even good ones get boring after a while.  With some little bit of effort, we can learn something new for our cooking and enjoy our meals together even more.  Thanks for your information and sharing the recipe.

    • Hi Sami,

The difference between vegan cheese and regular cheese is that vegan cheese has no dairy. It can contain nuts, soy, seeds, quinoa, nutritional yeast, or also root vegetables. They come in many flavors, such as Cheddar, Mozzarella, and others, just without the dairy. It melts just like regular cheese. As for taste, I have never been a cheese lover. Before I was vegan I only ate mozzarella and some goat cheese, and parmesan too, that was it. So, I could not compare any of the other cheeses’ flavors, but I like the vegan cheddar, mozzarella, and parmesan versions.

There are also amazing vegan hamburgers if you’d like to try those, storebought and homemade 🙂 Feel free to check my website for recipes.

  3. Thank you for providing this quiz, apparently, I am a regal Saladette! I have to admit that I guessed the answers regarding celebrities as I didn’t even know who some of them were.

Great recipe. Thank you for sharing.

  4. I am not vegan, and I doubt I know a lot about vegan sources of nutrients, but I like the food, love to cook. Also, we sometimes have guests who are vegan, together with others who are not, so I usually come up with the same meal in a vegan and non-vegan version. This tomato recipe seems delicious and can be adapted for both sides, which is great. I’m definitely preparing it very soon. Thank you for posting it.

  7. Great quiz. I thought I’d do better but I got Saladette status so not so bad. I remember reading somewhere that you can use the water that comes in a jar of chick peas as an egg substitute. I thought that sounded really strange. Is that correct or have I been misinformed?
The recipe sounds delicious, I love stuffed tomatoes, and peppers. Reminds me of being in Greece. Great post.

    • Hi Debbie,

Yes, the liquid that comes from a can of chickpeas is called aguafaba and can be used as an egg substitute. There are many egg substitutes. I wrote an article about that some time ago 🙂

  10. Hi Christine,

I love the quiz, and I am a regal Saladette. It’s always fun to learn something new from your article with quiz to do, and it stays in my mind longer than simple articles. I love the stuffed tomatoes when I tasted it abroad once, but I never see my mom cook for dinner. We could add some spices or things we love to eat in the recipes, so I think there are many flexibilities regarding this.

I love the way you explained the difference between regular & vegan cheese, and I start wondering how the vegan cheese(without dairy) tastes like? So, I might go to check it the next time I dine in a vegan restaurant.

Thanks for the fun quiz & cheers,
    Matt

Quizzes are fun, and fun learning often makes information stick longer, right? 😉 You can add any spices you like to the stuffed tomato recipe. The beauty of it is that you can really improvise with this recipe.

Thanks for the awesome recipe!  I’ve bookmarked your site to try it as I LOVE stuffed peppers but have never tried stuffed tomatoes.  Your recipe looks delicious.  Plus, your quiz was fun and interactive!  I really enjoyed taking it.  It looks like I reached the regal Saladette status level. 🙂 I’m a protein lover at heart and when I do eat vegetarian or vegan, I really enjoy getting my protein through tofu, soy, or lentils. Thank you for sharing the wonderful recipe and providing an insightful way to learn about vegan foods!

  12. What a tasty meal we just cooked together, You writing, Me reading lol. This is a new recipe for me but I could feel the healthy mix of vitamins, proteins, and fat. I just added this lovely stuffed tomato recipe with rice and veggies to my Chef Book. Honestly, I scored a 5 on the Vegan quiz but I don’t remember the answer I chose because I did it almost randomly,  so I got lucky.

Can you create an email popup at the end of the quiz, so you could send people like me our answers and maybe the correct ones as well?
